From Apps to AI: The Coming Era of Content-First Computing
Software is worth less and less every day because of the power of AI. If software itself is losing its scarcity, then what’s left of real value? The answer is clear: Content.

Software is worth less and less every day because of the power of AI. I see it in my own home — my 12-year-old son can now build a website in minutes, simply by describing what he wants in natural language. What once required months of coding and teams of developers is now accessible to a kid with an idea.
That shift should make us all pause. If software itself is losing its scarcity, then what’s left of real value?
The answer is clear: Content.
Content Is the New Moat
I could have AI build me a clone of Pandora or Netflix tomorrow — but without access to the music or movies, it would be useless. The design, the interface, the backend logic — all of that is commodity now. The real differentiator is the content itself.
That’s where MCP (Model Context Protocol) enters the picture. MCP is becoming the new API — a way for companies to open up their data, media, or knowledge through paid access points. In this model, content is the product, and AI is the universal interface.
From Apps to AI: The Jarvis OS Vision
Today, we still rely on apps and software as the middlemen that connect us to content. But that era is ending. AI can go directly to the content source on our behalf — no clicks, no swipes, no app icons. Think of Jarvis from Iron Man. That used to be science fiction. Now it feels like a roadmap.
I call this vision Jarvis OS: a future where AI handles the orchestration, pulling content from wherever it lives and delivering it directly in the way we need. No more apps. No more software layers. Just conversation, request, response.
A Hands-Free World
This shift doesn’t stop with software. Hardware is evolving too. Look at Meta’s glasses — they’re a step toward this vision of a hands-free world. Pair those glasses with Jarvis OS, and suddenly the smartphone in your pocket starts to look obsolete.
Microphones in your home, a pin on your lapel, or lightweight glasses on your face — these become the access points. Anywhere you can put a mic, you can access your content through AI.
Commerce Is Already Changing
OpenAI just released “Buy with ChatGPT”, now available to Etsy sellers, any retailer that uses Stripe, and soon Shopify as well. This isn’t some far-off future — it’s happening right now.
With over 700 million people interacting with ChatGPT every day, shopping is about to become as simple as asking for what you want. No websites. No search bars. No checkout forms. Just a conversational request — and your AI handles the rest.
This is the next step toward a frictionless economy, where AI becomes not just our interface to information, but to commerce itself.
Learning from Early Attempts
I was saddened when Humane shut down. Their Pin and OS vision was ahead of its time. But they weren’t wrong — just early. With today’s tools, like the Claude Agent SDK, that vision is finally becoming possible.
This time, I believe, the ecosystem is ready. The technology is mature enough. And the demand is growing.
The Future Is Coming Fast
I’m beginning work now on what I call Jarvis OS, and it reflects the future I believe we’re all heading toward:
- No more apps or cluttered phones.
- Content as the real value.
- AI as the universal interface.
- Hands-free, always-on access through natural conversation.
It’s a future that’s closer than most people realize. And once it’s here, we’ll look back at today’s app stores and screens the same way we look at flip phones — relics of a different era.
The shift is coming. The question is: who will be ready to build for it?
